i love this thing my mom bought it in the summer for me, i have a gray/black/white colored old town otter sport, and the first thing i noticed when i put it in the water was that it has great mobility, a little slow but hey u get a better exercise when you paddle more haha. I'm 13 live in darien , illinois, and i love this kayak. Great price, durabile, lightweight, i'd recommend it for anyone. I'm also looking forward to getting some water proof paint and writing the name of my boat on the side of the kayak, the name is the U.S.S. Minnow.

Compact, Easy To Lift, Good Maneuverability, Stable
Best Uses:
Beginners, Quiet Lakes
Describe Yourself:
Beginner, Recreational
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Old Town Canoe Old Town Otter Kayak:

This is a great kayak for recreational uses. For those who have experienced higher line kayaks, don't expect miracles with this one. However, I love this kayak for getting around a lake quickly and easily and being able to go wherever I want. They're also very sturdy and tough, while being quite light. I would definitely recommend this to other recreational users who want an easy way to maneuver a lake quickly. I never came close to tipping this and was able to fish out of it quite easily.

Not bad for its price
By EdnaVerified Reviewer from Columbus Ohio on 7/16/2007
Pros:
Easy To Lift, very lightweight
Cons:
Poor Tracking
Best Uses:
Beginners
Describe Yourself:
Recreational
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Old Town Canoe Old Town Otter Kayak:

not bad for its price, but does not track very well compared to others. Part of this is due to its short length. Tends to tip easily. Spend alittle more and get at least the Dirigo model or higher, which weights only 6 pounds more and tracks way better. This one is better suited for children and not adults in this price range.

Comments about Old Town Canoe Old Town Otter Kayak:

I enjoy this kayak very much. I bought another, after experiencing the ease of this kayak, so that family members could accompany me. I kayak on a quiet lake, so I don't have to deal with difficult conditions, but I have never had a problem with the stability or agility of the kayak.

I was looking for ...
By Emily S from Clinton MI on 6/25/2007

Comments about Old Town Canoe Old Town Otter Kayak:

I was looking for something fun to do on hot days. I'm not into 'serious' kayaking. I'm into paddeling around and having fun and keeping cool on the water. This kayak is not for rough open water. It's great for calm lakes and rivers. Add some padding to the seat and I'm good to go all day. Oh, and it's easy for a 'small' woman to carry and load in the car.

By Roy C from Al. on 6/15/2007

Comments about Old Town Canoe Old Town Otter Kayak:

The first kayak that I ever used. I bought it, put it in my pool and turned over immediately. I then went on a 6-hour paddle down the Buffalo River in Tennessee with no problems. I never turned it over again but rescued a lot of canoes and gear that did.

I own two of these ...
By Henrey A from Wapwallopen, PA on 4/16/2007

Comments about Old Town Canoe Old Town Otter Kayak:

I own two of these kayaks, and for the price you can't go wrong. The otter is not as fast as higher price kayaks, but these get the job done. The otter is very easy to maneuver, and tracks nicely in the water. I found that paddling is easy on ponds and lakes. My 8 and 10 year old have no problems using these. There are no foot peddles, which my kids dont mind. The seat does get a little hard after sitting for a couple of hours. I solved that problem with a little padding from a interlocking tile foam mat. I give it a 4 only because of the seat is not padded. Old Town kayaks have been around for ages and are a reliable company.

By jeff e. from fairfield, CT on 3/11/2007
Pros:
Comfortable

Comments about Old Town Canoe Old Town Otter Kayak:

I have used these kayaks before and I had the time of my life. This kayak is great on any type of water. My friends and I use to go in the knee high river were it started to get a little rapid and the kayak stayed completely balanced the whole way through. Like I said, this kayak is great for any type of water.
