The IBS™ Intelligent Brake System in the the Echelon™ low-profile baitcast reel has a metal brake pad that adjusts automically to the speed of the spool. When the spool is spinning quickly during a cast, centrifugal forces cause the brake pad to rotate toward the magnets located in the left side cover. The result is higher braking power to help control spool speed and prevent backlash.

I use this everytime I go fishing and it is my favorite reel I have ever had. My friends tell me to get something more expensive and bigger named, but I can't, I love this reel too much. BUY IT!!!
